I grew up in a house where guitars were basically furniture and someone was always
singing — usually whether you wanted them to or not. My dad
(lynnbeckman.com)
played classic country, my brothers blasted Van Halen and AC/DC, and somewhere between
honky-tonk and hair metal, I decided I liked both.
I started playing in bar bands at 16 with my oldest brother and have basically been
making noise in one form or another ever since.
These days I split my time between Tim & Katie, Boathouse, and solo shows — mixing
country roots, rock energy, and just enough sarcasm to keep things interesting.
Those early bar gigs are where I learned how to perform, how to read a room, and how
to keep going even when a monitor dies or a guy named “Big Ron” requests
Free Bird for the fourth time.
Since then, I’ve played pretty much everything with strings: guitar, bass, drums,
mandolin, harmonica, and just enough piano to fake being impressive. My influences are
all over the map — Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, SRV, Mark Knopfler,
Joe Walsh, Prince, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and a healthy dose of 90s and 2000s rock and
hip hop.
I play because music has always been the through-line in my life — the thing that
connects family, friends, strangers, and stories. I like songs with heart, guitars with
bite, and crowds that don’t take themselves too seriously… because I sure don’t.
